pirate treasure

The weekend was full of barrel tasting madness. During one weekend each year, nearly all the wineries along the Russian River Wine Road open their cellars and their barrels for a sneak preview of what next years' wines have in store. An opportunity like this just couldn't be passed up. Friday night we drank wine and mapped out an itinerary via bike so that Saturday morning we could up and fly out the door en route to our favorite wineries.

In preparation we printed maps and lists and descriptions. Then we drew our own map, one with a big 'X' and some palm trees where the treasure was sure to be. But we had to cross the paths of Jaws and The Kraken and a sea piranha before we could reach that treasure. Our 8-person bike gang toured through the dry creek valley, searching for treasure and trying to avoid the monstrous sea creatures. We never found the 'X' or the palm trees, but we found some good wine, a great bluegrass band and some mustard.
